Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) provide valuable networking opportunities for healthcare professionals in the western Victoria region. Regular meetings are facilitated by WVPHN staff, providing an opportunity to share and develop your skills and knowledge in an area of interest alongside other professionals in the local area.

Palliative Care SIG
The Palliative Care Special Interest Group (SIG) is held on the first Tuesday of every month, excluding January. The SIG members meet face-to-face at The Wharf Shed in Geelong for a breakfast meeting, however, participation is open to the whole western Victoria region as there is also an option to attend the meeting online.
Overview
The Palliative Care SIG is suitable for general practitioners, nurses, palliative care staff working in hospitals or other health services, along with allied health professionals who have an interest in palliative care.
The meeting is casual and very engaging with plenty of discussion and participation opportunities.
Members of the Palliative Care SIG play an important role in running the Annual Palliative Care Forum, held in October each year.
CPD points can be obtained from attending the meetings.
The meeting includes a combination of the following:
- a presentation by SIG members or external organisations on a Palliative Care associated topic or case study
- a book/ podcast review
- 'patient to remember' case study
- a WVPHN update on education or useful information

Trans and Gender Diverse SIG
The Trans and Gener Diverse Special Interest Group (SIG), known as Western Victoria Trans and Gender Diverse Community of Practice (TGDCoP), is an online meeting that is held on the first Wednesday of every month.
Overview
The Western Victoria Trans and Gender Diverse Community of Practice comprises of a multidisciplinary group. This invites general practitioners, allied health professionals, specialist physicians, surgeons, and most importantly people identifying as Trans and Gender diverse from local community supports to join the SIG.
CPD points can be obtained from attending the meetings.
The meetings often include:
- presentations from our peers who work in this area
- case study discussions
