The Emergency Response Planning Tool (ERPT) is an on-line tool that assists general practices in better preparing for, responding to, and recovering from the impacts of emergencies and pandemics.

General practices play a key role in providing essential health services to local communities. It is therefore crucial that practices are prepared in the case of an emergency such as a flood, bushfire, and power outages.

An up-to-date emergency response plan is a requirement of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) accreditation standards; however, these plans are completed to varying degrees.

Healthpoint in conjunction with the RACGP developed the Emergency Response Planning Tool (ERPT) to `deliver’ and operationalise the content in the `Managing emergencies in general practice – A guide to preparation, response and recovery’. The ERPT supports practices to evaluate potential risks affecting their practice and to build their own emergency response, business continuity and pandemic plan.

The Department of Health, Victoria is funding Victorian general practices to acquire an ERPT subscription, until 31 December 2023.

The ERPT will provide the following:

  • ERPT and support from Healthpoint ANZ, to start planning and complete an emergency response plan
  • online webinars, personalised training, and access to a help desk
  • a `COVID Safety Plan’ module that helps a practice build their own COVID safety plan
  • a series of modules that are relevant to your practice that builds a personalised practice emergency response plan.
  • compliance with the 5th edition of the GP (General Practice) standards
  • ability to export and print hard copies

COVID-19 Safety Plan module

A Covid Safety Plan module is available to help practices customise their own response plan to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The module, develop in collaboration with the RACGP, aim to protect the safety and wellbeing of practice staff, patients, contractors, and visitors. The module will ensure emergency response planning covers the specific precautions required during a pandemic.
