Heart disease is the broad term for conditions that affect the structure and function of the heart muscle. Heart disease can have many causes. It occurs earlier and more frequently in men than women, and within certain ethnic groups and is largely preventable. General practices have the ability to develop quality improvement activities targeting smoking cessation; nutrition and others that may improve the health outcomes of their patients and lessen the risk of cardiovascular disease.
