The early identification of people with type 2 diabetes can reduce the risk of coronary artery disease, stroke, kidney failure, amputations and vision loss. General practice, as primary care providers, play a key role in managing type 2 diabetes. Targeted quality improvement activities with a focus on diabetic patients or identifying patients with indicators of pre-diabetes can make a significant impact on the health outcomes of the patient population.
